My time at St. Bernard has taught me many skills that I will use both in college and throughout the rest of my life. I would like to believe that I am a very different person from the frightened fourteen year old I came to St. Bernard as four years ago- smarter, more adaptable, more accepting, more critical of myself and others. It is hard to say how much of the change can be directly credited to St. Bernard, but the growing up and learning I have done has mostly taken place here, both inside and outside of the classroom. You can grow older and more mature anywhere, but there is something about St. Bernard that makes it special, something unique in the classes, the campus, and the atmosphere. Four years is a long time, but now, at the end of them, I am coming with a mostly new skill set that will serve me well for the rest of my life. Communication is an invaluable skill. There is no conceivably profitable profession that does not include some form of communication, and it is impossible to form personal relationships without it. Effectively communicating to individuals may seem less difficult, but I believe St. Bernard improved my skills in an also valuable type of communication: communicating to groups. Public speaking is more avoidable than personal communication, but it is a highly useful skill if you want to advance in the world.
